1. Begin the lesson by asking the students to try to understand sentences I will be mouthing. I will never be using my voice in this part of the lesson. The students will try to guess one by one.
2. After completing this, I will have the students split into pairs and try this same exercise with each other
3. Then I will pass out a handout with 9 new signing vocabulary words
4. Before giving each vocabulary word their meaning, I will ask the students to guess what they think each one means
5. I will then go over each new word, sign it myself, and have the students copy me signing
6. I will randomly call on some of them to test their comprehension with these new words
7. Then I will bring up the Smartboard and have the students line up and test their comprehension, yet again, by filling in the box what they think their assigned signed word was.
8. They will go back to their seats and I will hand out a blank, lined piece of paper for them to write a journal on why they think signing is important for Deaf people.
9. I will have each of them read their opinion aloud, collect the journal and assess each one and give feedback
